Troop 5 started in 1916, originally as Troop 1, sponsored then, as it is now, by the Kiwanis Club of Massapequa. Due to a registration mix-up in 1921, Troop 1 became Troop 24, and remained that way until 1950, when the troop was given an opportunity to revert back to a lower numeral, more respective of it's origin. It became, and remains today, Troop 5.
Since 1980, 17 scouts have attained the rank of Eagle.
